Prusa Research has officially confirmed that input shaping and pressure advance are coming to the Prusa MK4 and XL series via firmware 5.2, currently in closed beta.
This long-awaited move puts Prusa closer to performance parity with Klipper-based machines, enabling faster print speeds without sacrificing surface quality. Input shaping works by counteracting mechanical vibrations during high-speed movement, while pressure advance helps the extruder maintain consistent flow during speed changes and cornering.
According to internal testers, the improvements are substantial:
- Up to 40% speed increase on detailed prints
- Sharper corners with less ghosting
- Reduced stringing and blobs
- Lower layer times on larger builds
However, the company warns users to check belt tension and run full calibration before using the new features, as the firmware assumes a well-tuned mechanical system.
The official release is expected within the next 3–4 weeks, with beta signups already underway. Users of the MK3S+ will not receive this update, as the firmware depends on the new 32-bit board architecture in the MK4 and XL lines.
