Construction 3D printing continues to gain momentum as German construction company Matthäi Schlüsselfertigbau has officially launched a dedicated construction 3D printing division following the successful completion of its new two-story headquarters.
The newly completed office building is the first fully operational two-story 3D-printed office building in northern Germany. The project marks an important milestone, demonstrating how additive manufacturing is transitioning from experimental projects to everyday commercial construction.
The headquarters was built using a large-scale concrete 3D printer that deposited specialized printable concrete layer by layer directly from a digital building model. The walls for both floors were completed in approximately 105 hours, significantly reducing construction time while maintaining high precision and minimizing material waste.
Following the project’s success, Matthäi established a permanent construction 3D printing division to expand the use of additive manufacturing across future commercial and industrial building projects. The new division will continue integrating large-scale 3D printing into the company’s long-term construction strategy.
Construction 3D printing offers several advantages over conventional building methods.
