Prusa Upgrades CORE One With New CORE One+ Features

Prusa Research is continuing to refine its enclosed CoreXY platform with the Original Prusa CORE One+, bringing several hardware and workflow improvements from the larger CORE One L into its smaller enclosed machine.

Rather than completely replacing the CORE One concept, the CORE One+ represents an evolution of the platform — including practical improvements aimed at making everyday printing easier.

Automatic Vent Control

One of the most noticeable changes is the new automatic top vent operation.

The printer can automatically open its top vent when printing lower-temperature materials such as PLA and PETG, then close it when working with higher-temperature materials.

That means users don’t have to manually manage the vent every time they switch between different types of filament.

Easier Flexible Filament Loading

Prusa has also redesigned the filament insertion point.

Flexible materials such as TPU can sometimes be difficult to feed into a printer because the filament bends easily.

The redesigned loading path is intended to make flexible filament insertion faster and easier.

New Spoolholder

CORE One+ also receives a new bayonet-style spoolholder.

It accommodates different spool sizes and is designed to work more easily with direct-feed drybox setups.

It’s a relatively small hardware change, but one aimed directly at improving the everyday printing workflow.

Enclosed CoreXY Platform

The CORE One+ retains the enclosed CoreXY architecture of the platform.

Its build volume measures 250 × 220 × 270 mm, while its actively controlled chamber can reach up to 55°C.

The standard hotend supports nozzle temperatures up to 300°C, while Prusa offers an optional high-temperature hotend capable of reaching 400°C for more demanding engineering materials. 

Multi-Material Expansion

Prusa is also expanding what the CORE One platform can do with its INDX system.

The system is designed to enable printing with as many as eight colors or materials in a single job.

CORE One+ also remains compatible with Prusa’s MMU3 multi-material system.

Upgrading Instead of Replacing

One particularly Prusa-like aspect of the CORE One+ is its upgrade path.

Existing CORE One owners don’t necessarily need to purchase an entirely new machine to receive the hardware improvements.

Prusa says owners can use an inexpensive upgrade kit — or even 3D print the necessary upgrade parts themselves.

That approach continues one of the company’s longstanding philosophies: making its printers repairable, modifiable and upgradeable rather than treating every new generation as a completely disposable platform. 

Where CORE One+ Fits

The CORE One+ sits between Prusa’s traditional open-frame machines and the larger CORE One L.

CORE One+ offers a 250 × 220 × 270 mm build volume, while CORE One L increases that to 300 × 300 × 350 mm.

Both use CoreXY motion and enclosed, actively controlled chambers.

For users who don’t need the larger build volume, CORE One+ provides many of the same platform concepts in a smaller package.

Evolution Instead of Reinvention

The CORE One+ isn’t about completely reinventing desktop FDM printing.

Instead, Prusa has concentrated on improving the small details that affect how people actually use their machines every day.

Automatic ventilation. Easier flexible-filament loading. Better spool handling. Continued software improvements. Multi-material expansion. And an upgrade path for existing owners.

Sometimes the next generation of a 3D printer isn’t about starting over.

It’s about making a proven platform better.
